Hosts and Tournament Format

Selection of hosts

ICC's executive committee votes for the hosts of the tournament post examining the bids made by the nations keen to hold the Cricket World Cup.

World Cup 2011 Hosts

India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh would host the 2011 World Cup, final to be held in India(Mumbai)

Tournament Format for 2011 World Cup


Teams play within each group in round-robin format. Top 4 teams from each group will proceed to knock out stage to play quarter-finals. Winners of quarter-finals will play semi-finals and winning semi-finalists will play in the final

ICC World Cup Trophy

ICC World Cup Trophy is presented to the winners of the World Cup finals. It was created in 1999, being the first permanent prize in the tournament's history. Earlier individual trophies were made for each World Cup.

Current trophy is made from silver and gild featuring a golden globe held up by 3 silver columns. The columns shaped as stumps and bails representing 3 fundamental aspects of cricket: batting, bowling and fielding while the globe represents a cricket ball. It stands 60cm high and weighs approx. 11kilograms.

The names of previous winners are engraved on the base of the trophy, with space for a total of 20 inscriptions.
